I cannot imagine living in that time and place as Marry did long ago. However, Abbie brings it to life.

I Didn’t Know
by Abbie Johnson Taylor

On that silent, holy night,
as I cradled my son,
while shepherds and wise men worshiped him,
I knew that his name would be Jesus
and he would rule the world.

I didn’t realize he would give sight to the blind,
hearing to the deaf,
the lame the ability to walk.
It never occurred to me
he would calm the waters, raise the dead.

I had no idea that years later,
one of his disciples having betrayed him,
his work as King would cause him great pain and death
in sacrifice for our sins.

As I gazed on my sleeping child,
undisturbed by people and animals around us,
I pondered God’s glory in that moment.
