Writing, a Great Way To Get Rid of the Grumps #Writing#Books#Publishing

Good evening campbellsworld visitors.

I’m glad you could drop in here on this hot summer’s eve.

After my earlier rant it’s a wonder to me that anyone shows up here at all, but having received a few private comments on the subject, it seems to me I’m not the only one who wonders from time to time about such things.

But. Enough of all that negative dribble. Pish Posh on folks who cannot or will not appreciate life enough to pay attention to what they’re reading and to what’s going on around them. I say it’s their loss and there are many more in this world who do.

This afternoon to rid myself of what I call ‘The Grumps’ I set myself a writing task. I decided that I needed and wanted to do some work on my manuscript.  First, I proofread the last three chapters I’d worked on before getting sidetracked with my Facebook event, and then did a rework of yet another chapter, which ended up being 1558 words by the time I’d reworked and edited the thing. Then I proofread the entire work I’ve done so far and that turned out to be 29863 words in all.

For those who don’t know, I’m doing more than a rewrite. I am in fact, doing an entire trilogy. The book will have a whole new name and there will be three books within. I’m not quite ready to release the name of the trilogy but here is a bit of info on the three books within…

The first is to be a second edition of my first self-published book, Campbell’s Rambles: How a Seeing Eye Dog Retrieved My Life, which spans the time period starting in May of 2010 ending at the beginning of October 2011, and tells the story of my realization that I truly did need and desire a Guide Dog from The Seeing Eye Guide Dog school in Morristown N.J. what the experience of going through their training program was like for me as a multiple DisAbled woman, and how it forever changed my life, as well as my denial that I was living in an abusive relationship.

I’m adding more action scenes, and dialog to do more showing rather than telling what happened during that time. Many persons who have read the first book have asked me how I will handle things like dialog. Luckily for me, I’ve extensive journals in which many conversations were written. I must also confess that much of that time is forever engrained within my memory and so doing the rewrite has been nothing more than a mostly happy trip down memory lane.

The second is to be called, The Raw Truth and will focus on the time-period beginning where the first book left off in October 2011 and going through the winter of 2015. The book will address topics concerning how things became so unraveled for me, how my then Fiancé Donnie became even more abusive, then was convicted of sexual exploitation of a miner and sentenced to ten-years in prison, how my mental illness became so extremely out of control and how I began the task of putting myself back together again while holding down a full-time job as Volunteer Coordinator of an area nonprofit who’s various functions included referring battered women to local safe houses. Then the third book, which will be called, Educating the Uneducated will focus on my becoming very ill, being admitted to first hospital, and then to a Nursing Therapy facility where Campbell my guide dog and I spent a month with me recovering from that illness and regaining my ability to handle and work my dog. This third book will focus on the challenges I faced as a multiple disAbled woman as a patient, and then will talk about the challenges I faced once returning home alone with no family support. It will span the time period beginning with 2016 and running through mid-summer of 2017.

Each book will be Approximately 200 to 230 pages long making the entire book between 600 and 690 pages long. Of course that’s only an estimate. It could be a bit shorter or longer depending upon what I and whomever I end up getting to help edit do to it over time.

I’ve a wonderful beta reader who understands the function of that task and gives me wonderfully constructive feedback. At some point I’ll employ a proofreader too.

I’ve no set timetable for completion, have not yet decided whether I’ll self-publish or try and shop it round to a traditional publisher, in fact, I’ve only gotten the first twelve chapters of the first book reworked and into the draft document.

This is a monumental task and is being done while keeping up with my promotional business, my blog, as well as writing my Summer short story series Miss Mazie.

Crazy? Yeah. Fun? Absolutely.

Hmmm? What’s that? You’ve not read any of my work other than the blog? Well, let’s fix that.
