The Great and Powerful Chair by Patty L. Fletcher April 8, 2021 #Author’sCorner #What’sUp

Good morning!

This is Patty L. Fletcher and Prince Edward, A.K.A. Sweet Eddy reporting live and in person from the Great and Powerful Chair!

Sweet Eddy and I have discovered our chair is indeed enchanted. “What’s that? Oh, you’ve not heard of the Great and Powerful Chair? I suppose, I should really start at the beginning of the tale. So, grab your favorite morning brew, find yourself a comfortable reading nest and I’ll tell you a story.

Once upon a long ago, there was a lady who had an old, dilapidated recliner. This old thing had for quite some time, served her well. She had snuggled babies, cats, and even Labradors in this old warn out chair but sadly, its loving comforting life was coming to an end.

The footstool was starting to get hung when the lady tried to lift it up or put it down, the back springs were quite sprung, and the seat had sunk so low it was like falling down a well when sitting down.

The lady wished each day for a new recliner, and in fact, had begun to work toward saving money to purchase one. She knew it would take many moons to accomplish such a feat, but she was determined to see it so.

Then one day, a message came from one of her many helpers. It said that some money had been found which could be used to magically enhance the lady’s life. All she had to do was speak what would make things better for her and it would be so.

The lady, not wanting to squander her wish, decided she would think carefully before answering, for there were indeed many things she was in need of that would if obtained surely make her life easier.

When the sun had gone down, come up and began readying itself to go down again, the lady sent a message to her helper and said. “Whilst there are many things, I’d like to have which would indeed make life better for me, I think my wish would be best used to get a desk and chair so I might have a good place to work.”

You see, the lady spent many long hours each day working on her computer and the place where she sat to do this was not quite right and indeed caused much discomfort.

The helper agreed this would be a good use of her wish. Plans were made and soon it was decreed that a desk and chair would appear.

The lady felt quite pleased yet still her desire for a new recliner grew.

A few days after the desk and chair had been ordered, the helper sent yet another magickal message. She wrote to say, that there was money leftover and that she knew the lady’s recliner was falling to pieces and would soon serve no more. She asked if the lady would like a new recliner to go with her desk and chair. The lady, being in awe at her good fortune wrote back to ask, “How can it be so that you’re able to purchase such a thing? Is it truly considered to be something which would greatly improve one’s life?” The helper wrote back to say that yes indeed this was considered to be so, as it was well known the lady worked hard to overcome all the obstacles placed in her path by evil trolls and gremlins and so the powers that were had decided a reward must be given for her efforts.

After some discussion via way of the magickal mail, it was decided a recliner with special powers would soon arrive. The helper told the lady the chair would lift into a position which would help raise her so her feet would easily touch the floor and she’d be able to stand without fear of toppling over as sometimes happened due to an evil spell which had been cast upon her long ago. This spell had caused sickness and though the sickness had been banished a lingering cloud of evil had remained. The chair would also allow the lady to recline comfortably in the evenings after the sun had gone down and the moon rode high in the sky whilst she read her books and snuggled her dear Prince Edward. It would give her bones warmth when they ached on damp days and when she found she’d pushed herself too hard and her back became stiff, the chair would provide a gentle massage.

The lady was beside herself with amazement and was also extremely grateful for although she’d been given many blessid gifts over the years, she’d never received something quite like this.

When the great chair arrived, the lady knew right away it was indeed powerful, When her supper had been eaten and the dishes cleared away, she and Prince Edward made themselves quite comfortable and began enjoying a magickal tale which was read by an incredibly talented bard.

As the tale flowed and Prince Edward began to purr, the lady’s eyes were soon weighted and before she knew what had happened, she was fast asleep.

When she woke late in the night with the wind whispering its secrets to the trees and the bard having fallen silent, she was struck with the horrifying realization that she’d forgotten not one but two events she was to have attended earlier in the evening. Knowing she’d need to make her apologies the next day, she dashed off a quick note to herself on her magickal Smartphone and then, Kissing Prince Edward went off to bed.

As She slipped underneath her covers, she sighed, “That chair will need to be handled with great care. For it has surely been enchanted with a powerful resting spell, which makes one forget their evening’s invitations.” Then, as the wind murmured to the moon and she slipped toward the land of dreams she prayed, “Thank you for the sun. thank you now this day is done, all my needs, wants and desires they’re met. Thank you for what I have and have not yet. Thank you when this day is new, I will still be me and you will still be you. Light my path. Guide my way. Give me that which to do and say. So mote it be. Blessid Be. Amen.”

The chair is a wonderful blessing. I fear I’ll want it more than the office furniture but it is going to be nice to set up a room dedicated to my work as well.
