The Blended Lives Chronicles A Lady MoonWalker series book III Chambers Between the Minds Reveal
What Happened to Miss Maisey?
Do you guys who have followed me for a while remember Miss Maisey?
Did you ever wonder what happened about all that?
People howled and hollered for more back than when I was doing that.
“You did not make it long enough.”
“We wanted to know more about the thing they found and killed.”
And on and on it went.
Those were the good old days when I actually got feedback.
Well, to you fans who have been wondering. Wonder no more.
Miss Maisey found her way into ‘The Blended Lives Chronicles A Lady MoonWalker Series book III Chambers Between the Minds
In fact, she is featured in the second half, which is book two of the book and here’s a sneak peek.
About the book.

The image shows a white, ornate vintage key positioned diagonally against a dark red background. Behind the key, there are two circles: one deep red, partially transparent and overlapping with a larger, lighter pink circle. The overall style is minimalist, with the key centralized and standing out due to its bright color contrasted against the solid, rich background and the softer circles behind it. The image evokes a sense of mystery or a symbolic theme.
Sides have been chosen, choices made. The war of the Purified is underway.
Derrick Gibbous, Second in Command of The Order’s double life finally has him on the run. His wife, High Priestess Laya MoonWalker Gibbous draws closer to her delivery date, which is said will produce the most powerful duel ever known.
With Derrick gone, Randall Jennings knows Laya must have a handler, and the only man for the job is one not seen in many moons.
Does Randall dare to delve into the past? Will the chosen soldier accept his mission?
Follow The Order through the portal into the chambers between the minds where you’ll discover a world where past, present, and future collide. A world in which only the strongest will survive, and outcomes are inspected, rejected, and finally accepted.
Book II
Miss Maisie
Prologue: Within the Listening Circle
Beltane had long been known as a celebration of fire, fertility, and new life, but among those who truly understood the old ways, it meant far more than dancing flames and joyful gatherings. It was the time when the veil between worlds thinned to its weakest point, when spirits whispered close to the ears of the living and unseen things stirred beneath the skin of the world. Ancient protections weakened. Old magik answered more easily. So too did darkness.
In times of peace, the people of Casimia welcomed Beltane with music, bonfires, and ritual. But these were not peaceful times.
Now, as unrest spread across the Federation and fear tightened its grip around both worlds and minds, many believed something else had begun moving within the shadows. Something patient. Something waiting. And just before the sun rose over the rim when the veil stood open and the boundaries between what was known and unknown wore dangerously thin, even the smallest shift in fate could awaken forces long better left sleeping.
The fire in the Listening Circle did not burn with flame.
It burned with memory.
Teresa Clevenger stood within its quiet center; her hands folded loosely before her. Beneath her stillness, something trembled.
“My cleansing block is weakening,” she said quietly. “The dreams are not dreams. They are memories.”
What I’m about to tell you is how it all began. Something we were not to remember.
“It was not a small thing. It was the beginning.”
“The beast did not die.”
“And the rogue soldier at the Book Nook Café was not an isolated event.”
“What you are about to see is memory returning. And if it falls into the wrong hands, the pattern will tremble again.”
Taking a seat beside Lily, Teresa looked directly into the fire now, speaking as an old storyteller. Somehow, under the magik she’d matured and aged so she carried herself as one who holds the power of Knowing. Soon, the room of illusion was responding to her words, and the four women were transported back to those long ago youthful yet not so carefree days.
“This is just as we lived it. The story here was woven from the experiences my friends and I had which we put together during and after.”
Laya, Wolverine and Lily stood as one. Speaking in unison they stated, “As it is cast, so shall it be done. As it is done, so shall it be delivered. As it is delivered so shall it be forever. Let no being from any worlds tear it asunder.”
With that, the Room of Illusion opened and the past stepped forward. Drawn forth by Teresa’s tale.
Prelude – The Stirring in James Landing
July 21, 2054: Moon Phase Waning Last Quarter
The heat came early, that year—hot and fast.
Not August yet, but close enough to warn of it.
Joe wiped his hands on his jeans and looked out across the road.
“You ever notice how quiet it’s been?”
Ronnie snorted from where he leaned back in the chair, tipping it onto two legs.
“It’s summer, Joe. Ain’t nothin’ moving ‘cept folks trying not to sweat to death.”
Jake didn’t laugh.
He stood near the edge of the porch, arms folded, watching the road like he expected something to come down it.
“It ain’t just the heat,” he said.
Joe glanced over.
“What then?”
Jake nodded toward town.
“You ain’t noticed? More folks coming through. Trucks too. But it’s not really that. It’s-I don’t know what I’m trying to say. It’s like right at the tip of my tongue but I cannot say it allowed.”
“I get it Jake.” Joe said.
Ronnie let the chair drop with a thump.
“All the new activity going on is just the plant. Been picking up since Uncle Gerald took over. It’s probably just all the new people and action makin’ you jumpy.”
Joe nodded.
“Yeah. Dad said it would. Said once Dingus got his hands on it, things would start moving.”
Jake shifted his weight.
“Still feels different. And Joe, hadn’t you ought to watch calling him Dingus?”
“I guess.” Joe said with a shrug and sigh.
Ronnie nodded to himself.
“We ain’t lived here long. Hard to say what’s normal.
Joe glanced down the road again.
“When we used to come visit, it wasn’t like this. Town felt… slower. Safer.”
Jake nodded once.
“That’s what I mean.”
A low rumble rolled up the road. The three of them turned as a truck from Friedman Chemicals passed by, heavier than the others, its tires grinding against the pavement as it headed out toward the plant.
Joe watched it go.
“That’s the third one this morning.”
Ronnie followed his gaze.
“Yeah… ain’t usually this many.”
Jake pushed off the post.
“Plant keeps growing, town’s gonna change with it.”
Joe let out a short breath.
“Already is.”
For a moment, none of them spoke.
Then Joe clapped his hands once against his thighs and stood.
“Well… ain’t no use sitting here all day.”
Ronnie dropped his chair flat.
“Finally said something smart.”
Jake stepped off the porch first.
Joe followed.
Ronnie came last, shaking his head.
“Let’s go find something better to do than watch trucks.”
They headed off down the yard, the porch settling quiet behind them.
Out on the road, another truck rolled past—bound for Friedman Chemicals.
James Landing Summer’s Tale
Sometimes there be glamour. Sometimes there be magik. And yes, friends and neighbors—sometimes there be monsters.
From the Journal of Billy Ray Rutledge that was, As Well As Various Tales Told to Him by Others.
Chapter One: Joe’s Warning
August 1, Lammas 2054: Moon Phase Waxing Gibbous
The Early-August sun sank slowly toward the horizon like a molten ball of liquid fire. Sweat ran into his eyes, and the wind scorched his face as if it rose straight from the pits of Narr.
“Why in blue blazes did I ever think this door-to-door Bible salesman job was such a fine idea for a cover, anyhow?” Billy Ray muttered to himself as he trudged up the graveled road toward the old, weathered house at the end of the lane. “Anybody livin’ in a place like that likely can’t afford one Bible.”
He spoke aloud to stay in character. It was a sure bet there were eyes in the sky and spies in the woods. There were some, desperate and dangerous enough to do just about anything to put food on their family’s tables. Billy couldn’t blame them but at the same time, dishonest behavior for any reason is dishonest. Did that make what he did dishonest? Sometimes he wrestled with that. He wrestled with it now.
Truth was, the damned mission was already tilted sideways. He needed the money. The worn-out station wagon he’d borrowed for the assignment had broken down a mile or two back. He’d have to pay that redneck mechanic from the gas station to come look at it—or tow it. And he could not report back empty-handed. Not on his first assignment. “Why on Korponious they couldn’t allow me to use an out of date hovercraft is beyond me,” He muttered, but in truth he understood.
Subtle with the entry. Blend. Listen. Don’t interfere unless necessary. The Order had drilled that into him.
He adjusted the loose satchel strap over his shoulder, again.
Suddenly three boys burst out of the woods to his left.
“Wahoo!” Wee!”
Billy Ray jumped back with a startled yelp of surprise and dropped his satchel. The boys skidded to a halt at the sight of him.
“S-sorry, sir,” the biggest stammered. “Didn’t know you was there. We didn’t mean no harm. Just havin’ a little fun.”
Billy Ray took a steadying breath and wiped his face. “It’s all right. You just startled me. Wasn’t so long ago I was a young pup runnin’ through woods, like a pack of wild Indians. With my friends same as you.”
The boy eyed him with curious green eyes. “Where ya headed, if ya don’t mind my askin’?”
“Out to that old house there.” Billy Ray pointed. “Last stop on my route.”
“Ah, I wouldn’t if I was you, sir. Miss Maisie ain’t likely to buy one of them Bibles—let alone a whole case.”
The other boys giggled.
“Don’t think so?” Billy Ray asked mildly. “Don’t she go to church like the rest of folks in town?”
“Nah. She’s strange,” the middle boy said. “Keeps to herself. Says she’s gonna fix that house, but it’s near end of summer and she ain’t done a thing. Keeps a big black brute of a dog too. Ain’t never heard of Bubba bitin’ nobody… but if she told him to? I reckon he might.”
Billy Ray sighed. “Well, I’ve got to try. Car broke down.”
The oldest boy leaned closer. “Some say she’s a witch. Say if she don’t like you on her land, she’ll turn demons loose.”
Billy Ray chuckled. “Now surely a smart boy like you don’t believe such foolishness.”
The boy grabbed his sleeve. “Sir, I don’t know what I believe. Just know strange things started happenin’ when she come in spring. I wouldn’t go if I was you.”
“I’ll use the utmost caution,” Billy Ray said with a faint smile. “Might see you boys tomorrow at the Friedman Chemicals ice-cream supper. Saw the sign at the station.”
“Gerald Dingus’s throwin’ that. He’s, our uncle,” Ronnie said.
Billy Ray filed the correction away carefully. Noting the hesitation in the boy’s statement concerning his uncle Dingus.
For a moment, they all stood looking at one another, a silent message flowing between the three boys. Then, Billy Ray asked, “What’s your names?”
The spokesman for the group said, “Name’s Joe. That’s Ronnie. And the runt’s Jake.”
“I ain’t no runt!” Jake hollered.
Billy Ray smiled and said, “Y’all sound like brothers.”
Joe gathered the two younger boys around him as if he were keepin them safe. “Oh! Excuse my manners. We are brothers. Like I said, my name’s Joe. I’m almost thirteen. Ronnie the middleman’s ten. And Jake who aint a runt is nearly nine. Our daddy’s Eddie Joe Calhoun, and my mom’s Sally.”
“Well, it’s good to meet you. You can call me Billy Ray. My daddy was ‘sir.’”
As the boys walked off, Ronnie laughed. “Laid it on thick, didn’t you, Joe?”
“Shush. He’ll hear.”
Billy Ray watched them go. Tight little cluster. Protective. Something guarded in Joe’s eyes.
Too guarded.
“Well now,” Billy Ray murmured softly once they were gone, “either that boy’s a born actor… or he’s hidin’ somethin.’ Could it possibly be I’ve found the family after all?”
He adjusted his hat and stepped into the dooryard.
A massive black dog rose from beneath an overgrown bush and growled low.
“Well, you must be Bubba.”
“That’s right,” came a woman’s gruff voice from the shadows. “And just who might you be?”
And it began.
