Apples Of Gold: Timely Advice When the World Doesn’t Seem Lovely
By Jo Elizabeth Pinto (© 2020)
“Timely advice is lovely, like golden apples in a silver basket.”
(Proverbs 25:11, NLT)
The short, easy-to-read vignettes and poems in “Apples of Gold” focus on sifting the true and positive out of the grit and grime of daily life. … Some mention God; most are as practical as they are spiritual. All of the pieces are intended to help readers seek strength and joy in the challenging days that have come upon us.

DADDY WON’T LET MOM DRIVE THE CAR: TRUE TALES OF PARENTING IN THE DARK
BY: JO ELIZABETH PINTO (COPYRIGHT 2019)
“So Sarah?” the teacher asked, in a question I had rehearsed with her, “what’s it like to have a blind mom?”
“Well,” my little girl said, in an unrehearsed answer, “it’s like a regular mom, except Daddy won’t let her drive his car.”
With that nonchalant reply in front of her second-grade class, Sarah summed up the way my blindness has fit into the fabric of our family. It isn’t a problem; it isn’t even a novelty; it’s just part of how we roll. My blindness has changed a few practical logistics. But in the end, kids are kids and moms are moms, and the dents and delights of parenthood are universal. As I told my daughter when she was very small, putting an only slightly different spin on the words my mom had said to me thirty years before, “The eyes in my face are broken, but the ones in the back of my head work just fine.”
COVER DESCRIPTION (FOR VISUALLY CHALLENGED READERS)
The title, “Daddy Won’t Let Mom Drive the Car” appears at the top, and “True Tales of Parenting in the Dark” and the author and illustrator names “Jo Elizabeth Pinto” and “N. Page” are written in the cement squares of the driveway. The family car is backing out of the driveway. Dad is standing by, looking half amused and half distressed. A cat is on the other side of the car, with an arched back and a puffy tail. Under one tire, some daisies are squashed and others are flying. The license plate says, “Blind101” and a bumper sticker says, “Mom Power.”

Fiction.” The novel also won several awards from the Colorado Independent Publishers Association: First Place for “Inspirational Fiction,” Second Place

What is a family? Rick Myers is a despondent seventeen-year-old who just lost his parents in a car wreck. His family is now the four teenage buddies he’s grown up within a run-down apartment building. Fast with their fists, flip with their mouths, and loyal to a fault, “the crew” is all he has. At least he thinks so until he meets Daisy, an intelligent, independent, self-assured blind girl. Her guts in a world where she’s often painfully vulnerable intrigue Rick, and her hopeful outlook inspires him to begin believing in himself. But when the dark side of Daisy’s past catches up with her, tragedy scatters the crew and severely tests Rick’s resolve to build his promising future.
Fortunately, his life is changed by a couple with a pay-it-forward attitude, forged out of their personal struggle with grief and loss. Their support makes all the difference to Rick and eventually to the ones he holds most dear as they face their own challenges.
“The Bright Side of Darkness” is a story of redemption and the ultimate victory that comes from the determination of the human spirit.

AUTHOR MEREDITH BURTON
Released August 8, 2019
FROM AUTHOR MEREDITH LEIGH BURTON
I am thrilled to announce that I have a new novella just released on August 8, 2019. The book is entitled Rebekah’s Refuge, and is a loose retelling of the fairy tale Rapunzel. Writing this novella meant so much to me, because it addresses the difficult theme of knowing when to acknowledge your desperation and turn over your problems to a higher power. I am dealing with the sickness of a family member and have come to understand the difficult stress placed upon caregivers. This novella explores, in a fantastical setting, the difficulties placed upon those who seek to save others even when circumstances are beyond their control. Rebekah’s Refuge is about learning to listen for the calming song of peace even in the midst of turmoil.
In a plague-ravaged world, Rebekah is a blind norn, a being with the ability to create life-giving plants through her hair. Her people are often misunderstood, and Rebekah must flee from a desperate man who seeks to obtain her hair in order to save his ill wife. When Rebekah’s path crosses with that of Martha’s, a mother who has lost her daughter to the same man, the two women must find a way to band together to save human and nornkind alike. Will Rebekah’s pursuer capture her? Will the plague upon the land be eradicated, or is a more sinister plot at work? Things are not what they seem in this story of loss, danger and triumph. Rebekah’s Refuge is a story of finding the inner strength to fight even when you feel alone and powerless.

Lynda McKinney Lambert
STAR SIGNS: NEW AND SELECTED POEMS (2019)
by Lynda McKinney Lambert
Now in paperback ($9.50) and e-book ($2.99) from Amazon, Smashwords, and other online sellers.
Details, cover image, buying links, and free text preview: https://www.dldbooks.com/lyndalambert/
About the book:
Lynda Lambert covers a wide terrain of subjects and topics in this new book, from lights to legends to seasons, treating us to images and metaphors about plants, people and weather. She opens this large collection with the title poem, Star Signs, which walks us through the alphabet as it digs through thoughts, emotions and observations, “Using star signs to map out new terrain.”
Throughout this book of poems, these gems of poetic creation shimmer like beads on her fabric art, like bold brushstrokes of color on her paintings, and reflect light like the gemstones on her prize-winning piece of mixed–media fiber artwork. It seems this entire collection is like a multifaceted mural.
Her attentiveness to nature and strong reflections from memory have woven from a collage of remnants a beautiful tapestry for us. It offers a wonderful feast for the eyes and the mind.
—Wesley D. Sims, author of Taste of Change
This is the author’s third book of poetry.

Cover design, editing, layout, and e-book conversion by DLD Books
Description of the cover image of Star Signs:
The late evening photo shows several delicate, bare trees in silhouette, leaning slightly to the right, against a violet-colored sky. There is a faint streak of pinkish light to the right of the trees, low on the horizon. Thousands of stars are visible in the sky. The solid black landscape below the trees appears to be the shore of a darkened lake, which is in the foreground. A few stars are reflected in the water. The overall impression is one of stillness and beauty. The predominant colors are black and violet, along with white pinpoints of starlight. The title and subtitle are in white at the top of the cover, and the author’s name is in white at the bottom.

Runs of Life – Ernest Dempsey’s Poems
Author, editor, and blogger Ernest Dempsey’s new collection of poems has been published in a chapbook titled Runs of Life. Published by the Loving Healing Press of Ann Arbor, MI, this collection has themed poems coming mainly from personal memories of running—out of simple play and childhood fun time, at times for safety, or even in dreams.
Elizabeth Knight, Writing and Literature Instructor, Portland Community College, reviews Dempsey’s poems as:
“Ernest Dempsey’s dear little book on running is full of surprises. His earnestness about running both delights and transforms into potent metaphor…. just not the ones you might expect. This is a sweet and generous heart… one that runs into darkness and manages to bring back joy.”

He holds an MCP certification (Microsoft Certified Professional) as well as a BS in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix. He has also received the Florida division of Blind Services Access Technology endorsement. Casey has worked in various Florida Organizations that serve the blindness/low-vision community where he has introduced new software and training/support ideas from Serotek, the NVDA (Non Visual Desktop Access) screen reader, and of course apple iDevices. Casey was also instrumental in the founding of a Guide Dogs for the Blind technology chapter in 2011. Casey enjoys testing new technology and software and is highly committed to remaining informed of developments in technology.
The idea behind my personalized access technology solution is that people have different needs and learning styles. Some want to learn as much as possible so they can be ready for anything. If that’s you, great! However, just as important is the next person who may simply want the minimum to get the job done, then call later when something else crops up. We all have different limits, and sometimes less is more. Some learn by example, some learn better by taking a few pointers and trying to figure things out for themselves, and some just want it fixed so they can go on about their day. You may be:
A student who is working on that all-important paper. Do you struggle with research, reading books, or those dreaded citations? Been there, done that!
A business professional whose company has suddenly made changes or updates that are driving you insane. Maybe you’re even more ambitious and want to build a website, or take a website from good to great in class. How does your name in a dot com sound?
A retired lifelong learner or hobbyist who wants technology to just work the way it should. On the other hand, you may need help with online resources to feed your hobby. If only I had a dime for every time I heard, “I had no idea that was available online!”
None of these? Have no fear. I specialize in makin’ your tech life easy, no matter what that entails. I think outside the box and color outside the lines. I will tame your tech for you!
Hand-Tossed VA Services
Do you ever find yourself needing something, but just don’t have the time or expertise to locate it on your own? First off, I’ve been there, and I know exactly how you feel. Second, don’t blame yourself. Google, Bing, or whichever search engine you like, can only take you so far without calling in an expert.
That is where I come in. I’m Casey. You can think of me as your personal virtual assistant. Let me help you bring back those lost hours in your day. As we work together, and I learn your stile, I will give you hand-tossed results that fit your tastes precisely. 🍕
We all need a gift sometimes. Some people hate the idea of getting a gift, simply because it is hard to find that incredible gift that says, “I was thinking of you.” You may not want to get someone a gift certificate, flowers, cookies, or chocolates. Well, maybe you do if those items are over the top and tremendously unique. Need a special toy for your cat, dog, or fire breathing dragon? Say no more. So, let me know what you need and who you need it for. Boss, coworker, spouse, cat or dog, I got ya covered! Give me as much detail as you can, and I’ll get to work. If I need some clarification, I may reach out to you.
Did you lose contact with someone? Are you trying to locate a newly discovered relative you haven’t met yet? A long-lost friend or significant other? I can help. The more info you can give me ahead of time the better—first and last name for starters, along with an email address or phone number if you know it. Let me know if you need just address info, or more detailed stats like marital status, criminal background, or something else. Give me as much as you can, and I’ll start tracking them down for you.
Find yourself needing to crank out three research papers with at least ten references for each one? I feel your pain! Been there, ate the pizza and got the t-shirt. 😉 Do you need to find information on a competitor? If the info you need is in a book, magazine, or journal article, I have access. While I cannot give you the entire book or professional magazine, I can share excerpts from those sources. Let me know how much information you need, and I will start collecting and collating for you! Formatting those documents can also be done for you. Whether it’s APA, MLA, or something else, just write, and let me make your citations and references right.
Are you a Writer?
Do you find yourself with too much to do and not enough time? Maybe you love writing but hate the research. If you need facts or data for your next best seller, I will give it to you in a silver document, if that’s your pleasure. 😉 Need to divide up your paragraphs into chapters? What about a nice table of contents? Just let me know.
Looking to travel for business or pleasure? Looking to find a flight, hotel, or something else away from home? Maybe you want info near your destination such as things to do, nearby places to eat, or something else. I’ll hook you up with ideas and comments from people who have already done it. This way you can take the hassle out of travel!
Need a solar charger that does more than just charge? Overwhelmed by all the computer and smart device options out there? Let me help you find just the right device to meet your needs, deals that fit your budget, and the exact tech configuration that fits your life. I’ll do the hard work so you can relax and enjoy it. Once you get that new computer or device in your home/office, you can give my other service a try and let me tame your tech.
