Talk to Tell-It-To-The-World Marketing About Marketing: Know What to Do Before You Do #BusinessCorner #Tip #WordPressWednesday

Hello to All.

Before I start my post, I want to get the disclaimer out of the way. This post is not meant to point fingers at any individual person, place, or thing. This post is inspired by my observations concerning things like blogging, promoting, and general behaviors on email and Facebook postings.

Today, I want to talk to you a bit about those observations and give you who will take the time to read this a few suggestions.

If you become offended or upset by what I write, my suggestion to you is to think about why what I say here bugs you and then see if you might fix it. Words like you are meant generally not to any single person.

OK. Now that’s out of the way, let’s begin.

Over the past few months, I’ve observed people leaping headlong into things such as holding large events, submitting to contests, magazines, content writing promotions, and blogging opportunities without having one solitary clue as to what they needed to do or what might be expected of them.

I’ve received submissions for my magazine which in no way met my guidelines, even though they’re visible on my blog and are available for email out upon request. I have received submissions for promotional opportunities which I’m handling on the behalf of others which again, in no way met the criteria given, observed people leaping into holding large events with no real foundational plan in place and people offering host spots on their blogs who had no idea of what was to be done to do such a thing.

This, to me, makes no sense. You wouldn’t walk into your kitchen and declare, “I’m going to bake a three-layer cake!” grab up a half dozen unrelated ingredients and commence baking. So, why in the world would you leap into something which is going to help further your career as an author, blogger or business owner without at least knowing the basics of what you’re to do?

I totally agree with learning as one goes. When I began my writing career in 2014 with the publishing of ‘Campbell’s Rambles: How a Seeing Eye Dog Retrieved My Life’ there were a ton of things I didn’t know but before I began, I spoke with a lot of other authors. I did some reading of books ‘On Writing’ and I spent a little time haunting author groups on Facebook.

Why? Because I wanted to give a bit of study to the issue before I just leapt right in headfirst.

I did the same thing when deciding to begin blogging in 2015. I followed other bloggers. I made observations on what they were doing. I enlisted the assistance of someone who could help me with some things I was unable to do due to lack of ability and knowhow and I began. If you scroll back through the archives of this blog into the early years, you’re going to see a HUGE difference between then and now and yes, I did a HUGE lot of learning as I went and I am still learning today. Why? Because the only constant in life is change.

OK. I think you get the idea of what I’m on about. So, what to do?

My suggestion to you, before you leap right into the deep waters of whatever it is you wish to do, do your homework. Know something about what it is you’re getting into. Observe others who have been doing what you want to do for a long time. Query them about what it is they do and ask if they can give you tips. Join groups, watch Youtube videos on the subject or even take a class.

If there are things you’re not good at doing enlist the help of others. Having a great team in place can make all the difference in the world to your success. But for goodness sake, don’t just leap into the ocean of what it is you want to do with no idea whatsoever of how to do it. If you do, you set you and anyone you involve in your endeavor up to fail.

 the goal is to help the client market their Book, Blog, or Business to the absolute best of their ability.

Over the next few months, I’ll be offering classes on things such as…

  • General Facebook navigation,
  • How to use Social media and blogs to promote your content,
  • Networking and Outreach,
  • Event planning, and more.

After I’ve covered the basics, I’ll be taking my own advice and enlisting the help of others. This means that in the second round, there will be guest teachers.

These classes will be recorded by me and made available upon request.

The cost for these classes, which will be approximately one hour in length will be available for purchase for 20 Dollars per recording.
