Sunrise Surprise: Morning Musings and Memories #Author’sCorner, #Iinspiration, #What’sUp
Good morning, I hope all are well.
I sat down here to write a quick note and ended up writing a blog post.
It was rambling badly, so before I go for more coffee, I’ll take a moment to curse the latest winter storm and wait to see if my friend is going to brave the weather and come over or stay home to snuggle into the warmth.
There’s no wrong answer here. I totally understand not going out in a storm if one doesn’t have to.
That’s what my rambles were about.
In short, I have hearing and spatial disorientation issues that plague me when using a cane. When I work a dog, those issues diminish somewhat because the dog compensates for them.
I’m sitting here sipping my favorite brew, wrapped in my purple shawl — the color of spirit.
A dear friend once heard me in the chat room lamenting the loss of a favorite shawl years ago, and the next thing I knew, she was draping this one across my shoulders. In that moment, it became a deeply comforting gesture of friendship.
This is one of my favorite times of day. Quiet morning. No hustle and bustle. If Blue were here, he would be stretched out at the foot of my bed, snoozing as only a Labrador can. Of course, Chief Seeing Eye? Dog Blue must have a belly rub to begin his day. He likes slow-moving mornings. I suppose right now he’s moving to a different rhythm because of a different household routine.
But we always take our time when we wake up. I like to have my water, take my morning meds, and, if something reasonably important is going on, get dressed in decent casual clothes. Since Blue and I must go out and we live right in town, there’s no more slipping out in my robe. Some days it’s lounging clothes. Today, even with no Blue, it’s casual street clothes.
I like comfort, so the pants are a kind of faux velvet, and they’re stretchy. Love stretchy! The shirt is a lovely pullover which, according to the Meta Glasses, is some sort of white or beige striped color.
I got a full-length mirror hung yesterday. Now I just need a good light source for this room. When I have that, I can stand in front of the mirror and, with the help of my Meta Glasses, create matching outfits.
If you ask the right questions, these glasses will:
• Tell you the color of something and describe any stripes or patterns.
• Tell you what colors coordinate together in fashion.
• Tell you whether what you’re wearing matches.
I’m learning how to do a demo, and when I’ve perfected it to my own standard for a call — and once I’m healed from this surgery — I intend to do a presentation in the ACB community.
There are many demos in the podcast section at ACBMedia.org, but none are quite like what I do. As a dear leader and friend says, “There’s always room for more.”
That’s where I’ll end.
There’s always room for one more.
My great-grandmother, Momma Jennings, used to say it — at least, that’s what my mother told me. I was too young to remember her myself, but I grew up hearing the story. When someone showed up around dinnertime, there was always room for one more.
Usually, it was a friend or relative down on their luck, knowing they would receive comfort, acceptance, and a good meal. When I was growing up, I sometimes brought friends home for dinner when Mom was cooking something that stretched, because I knew they didn’t always get a good meal.
In the ACB community, we say it too. There’s always room for one more. One more to join a call. One more to learn to host, facilitate, stream, or all of the above. One more person to bring their true self to the table.
America was that way. We had a system that admittedly needed work, but we had love. We understood what our forefathers intended when they began, and we understood that times were changing.
Now we have discrimination, rights being taken, and people being harmed for daring to speak out.
No. That’s not some foreign country you’re watching on the news. That’s our own countrymen doing these things.
When will it stop? Who will rise to meet the challenge?
Stand together, or else we fall.
For now, the Keurig awaits, there will soon be fruit on a plate, and all is okay — for now.
