A Celebration of Imbolc – Nature’s Call for the Replacement of Love
Geese swim away as I call, “One day I’ll catch you!” They float on the water while I say:
“If you turn towards me, know I turn to you. If you think of me, know I think of you. If you say my name, know I will call you to me.”
The ground is frozen solid, and expressions are distant. Suddenly, there is heavy rain with a torrential downpour, thunder roars, lightning flashes, wind blows, creeks flow, and rivers rise rapidly. As do emotions.
Overflow of anger, frustration, sadness, feelings of despair, and a little madness.

Synopsis (written by the author):
Danny’s Tide’s big project is in full swing. He’s having an abandoned coal mining town, Century End, rebuilt. The support from local townspeople is overwhelming. But then odd things start occurring on job sites. They’re small at first: undelivered equipment and materials, mislaid tools, minor workers’ accidents.
Danny asks his new bride, Private Investigator Tracy Gayle, to look into it. At that moment, she’s on Long Island, tidying up an older case with the FBI. Danny’s in Northern Pennsylvania, overseeing the decorating of their new East Coast house and preparing for his band’s upcoming tour. His long–time drummer has walked out on him, and he has to find a replacement fast.
When Tracy returns to Pennsylvania, she gets right on the Century End case, but she’s short on time to come up with answers. The small “inconveniences” have grown into much bigger, more dangerous things.

This week, I have rolled Esther Chilton’s writing challenge into my Spin the Bottle post as her prompt word is secret. This word popped up in both my abhanga poems quite without any planning on my side. I thought it was very kind of the muse so I’m going with it.

Robbie is one of the poets who has inspired me to begin writing my own poetry. I’m unsure of form, and a whole lot of other stuff but I know what I like, and what feels right to me.

Joan Myles has always been a child of Wonder as well as a spiritual seeker. When she lost her sight at the age of 12, these qualities and writing poetry saved her from despair.
Joan earned a B.A. in Education, a Master’s in Jewish Studies. She married, raised four lively children, worked as a Rehabilitation Teacher, and taught Hebrew and Judaics for over 15 years.
Her first book of poetry, One With Willows, vividly expresses Joan’s child-like joy. She considers her poems to be a kind of footpath for readers, an opening into that place of delight, an invitation to awaken childlike wonder for themselves.

Perplexing Puddle
(Ballad)

The shade of that puddle I pondered,
As I the asphalt of the road wandered,
Around the time of sunset at dusk.
The air hung humid with a scent of musk.
A reflection of reddish-purple seemed to flash there.
Looking around I saw no hint of rain yet in the air.
If not from water, that puddle came from somewhere.
As the sun moved on, shadow crept in, unaware.
“What is this puzzling puddle?” I asked myself.
“How has it come to be on this road all by itself?”
Around my finger I twirled a strand of brown hair,
As I stood and pondered there.
Not wishing to examine it close,
I wondered, “Could there be a ghost,
Who materialized for a time,
To play this game of leave behind?”
Looking about I saw no trail.
No tell-tale spots to make the road pale.
As darkness encroached, my thoughts turned.
My stomach too was tight and churned.
“Surely that is not a pool of blood!”
My heart pounded with hammering thuds.
I walked on with hurried steps. Feeling bereft,
I did not want to be the only one left.

Living Vicariously in Wyoming: Stories

Synopsis
As defined in the first story, living vicariously means “living your life through someone else’s.” You’re invited to live vicariously through lives of characters in these stories: a lawyer who catches his wife in the act with a nun, a college student who identifies with a character in a play, a young woman who loses her mother and finds her father.
In Wyoming, as in any other state, people fall in love, and relationships are shattered. Accidents, domestic violence, prejudice, and crimes occur. Lives are torn apart, and people are reunited. These ordinary characters deal with everyday and not-so-everyday situations. The twenty-five stories in this collection, most of which are set in Wyoming, are about how these and other conflicts are resolved or not.
Excerpt from Title Story
“Deception! Deception! Deception!” my wife Mandy cried, as she marched into my law office on a Friday afternoon in October and flopped into the chair across from my desk.
She reminded me of Amanda in The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, who reacts the same way when she discovers her daughter lied to her. Mandy taught English and communications and directed plays at Sheridan College here in Wyoming. She’d produced The Glass Menagerie the previous year.
“I’m sorry,” my secretary said from the doorway. “I told her you were busy.”
“No problem, Lorraine,” I said. She backed out and closed the door.
“Okay, how did I deceive you?” I asked, turning to Mandy.
Abbie Johnson Taylor has published three novels, two poetry collections, and a memoir. Her work has appeared in The Weekly Avocet, Magnets and Ladders, and other publications.
She is visually impaired and lives in Sheridan, Wyoming, with her robotic cat Joy, where she worked as a registered music therapist with nursing home residents and in other facilities. She also cared for her late husband, who was totally blind and suffered two paralyzing strokes after they were married. This is the subject of her memoir and many of her poems.

And now, we slip quietly into the library for wine cheese and assorted goodies while we enjoy an interview with Kevin Hubschman He’s just released his second book, and is our Featured Author of the Week.
Take it away Kevin.
First, in your own words tell us a little about you.
My name is Kevin Hubschman. I am 63 years old, born on the 26th day of December in the year 1961. I have survived thus far with little to no help, support or encouragement and have had to deal with many negative forces, including bullies all throughout my life and serious medical problems. My book “One More Reason To Cry” is a work of what I call “Reality Fiction”, and closely mirrors many events in my own life, showing my tenacity to survive. It was written not only as a catharsis to me, but also a message to readers that shows even with the most terrible problems, you can still overcome the odds and be a survivor as long as you can.
Where do you live?
South Carolina (born in Brooklyn, NY, lived on Long Island for nearly 50 years, lived in eastern Pennsylvania for 4 years).

Do you have any pets?

What keeps you going? I mean, like what inspires you and keeps you moving forward in your work? Living day to day with major health problems and taking care of my wife.

Diet very limited due to severe kidney disease. I guess now it would be air-popped popcorn with no salt.

Never lie to someone who trusts you, never trust someone who lies to you

I will stabilize my kidney disease and diabetes and strive to live a long and healthy life
What is your biggest pet peeve?
Hypocrisy and arrogance, bullies
What do you think your best strengths are, and how do they help you in your work as a writer?
Honesty and integrity and a strong command of English grammar, spelling, vocabulary and sentence structure.
What are your weaknesses, do they hinder your work, and how are you making them stronger?
Trouble focusing, fatigue and weakness from medical problems
What is your dream for the future, and how does it relate to your work as a writer?
I don’t dream for the future. I live day by day in the present only.
