SATURDAY’S SIPS OF WINE FROM THE GRAPEVINE: Threat a Poetic Piece of Power by Butterfly Thomas #PoetryPlace

Good morning and welcome to Saturday’s Sips of Wine from the grapevine.

This month, my magazine was so huge that not everything was able to be fitted in and in fact some things were accidentally left out. In an effort to make certain all my contributors are represented and their talented work is available to be enjoyed by all, I’m sharing this powerful poem by Butterfly Thomas here with you.

Thanks in advance for reading.

Threat

By Butterfly Thomas

February 19, 2021

So you gon be casual about it

Like the shit is cool?

Comfortable with talking to me in such a way…

“What you think I’ma rape you”

Why would you ask me something like that?

So we agree…

It’s a terrible

Horrible

No good

Very bad

Thing

And yet

Because your feelings hurt

Or your ego

Cause I didn’t do

Something you wanted me to

Go with you

Or let you come in

I’m appalled

At your audacity

Your capacity

To fix your face

Your mouth

To fix your lips

To ask me

So flippantly…

And I didn’t think so

But now

I don’t know

Cause that thought always floats in the hindbrain

Amorphous

That threat always has the potential

To surface

Peace,

Butterfly
