Hello, Creative Journey Friends.
I hope you’re well.
Here I am in training, and though I know I asked for all this, it’s still hard.
But! Wait! I’m using what I’m learning from Kaila here.
And! Wait! Wait!
My O&M instructor practices mindfulness and somatic reset.
Well, humph! Who knew?
Call it whatever you wish, but what Kaila teaches goes into everything.
The other day, I got lost. I threw cane technique out the window, and without realizing it, I began to tap/pound out my frustrations. It wasn’t until I came to a glass portion of a wall containing a window with a door next to it that I realized anything at all.
I was completely and totally lost in my head.
My O&M instructor had been somewhere close the whole time. Of course, he is a Ninja O&M instructor and walks with great stealth, so I didn’t even know he was there.
Whoops! No situational awareness either.
A complete recipe for disaster should I be on the street, cane, or dog.
Speaking to me in a firm but quiet and nonthreatening way, he said, “Patty. Where are you? Take a breath.”
I started to speak. He stopped me.
“No. Take that breath. Relax your body. Use your senses and tell me where you are.”
I finally got it. I calmed down, and he said, “When you get lost and frustrated, your technique goes out the window. It is gone, and you’re pounding out your frustration on a wall. You’re no longer gathering information. You’re just on a mission of self-destruction.”
I stood there, taking slow, deep breaths as he talked. Then I realized I was as he said pounding out my frustration. I could have stopped, gone to a place out of the walking traffic, and done the breathwork and the tapping. I could’ve brought myself back online.
But no!
I threw all the work Kaila, and I did out the window, along with everything my Ninja O&M instructor and I had done.
But! Wait! It gets better still!
After I calmed down, my heart stopped racing, and I began to hear what was around me rather than the roar of fear and chaos, I started doing the tapping where you take your thumb and tap each finger while breathing in and out at a four-four count.
Without knowing what I was doing with my fingers, because he is also blind, he said, “Now, when you stop and you’re doing the deep breathing and getting yourself back online, stand and take your cane and go back to the exercise of open-palm technique. Just do that two-point touch. Get your arc going again, and soon you’re going to know where you are. You’ve got the information right now to figure it out if you only use it.”
When I got back to the dorm and thought all this through, I realized it’s the same thing, just applied to O&M.
I was completely dumbfounded! Blown away! And reassured all at once.
We’ve done a lot of other mindfulness practices, and though they’re calling it something else—Orientation and Mobility—and though they use a few different phrases, it all connects.
That two-point touch with a good cane arc is, to me, much like tapping my thumb against each of my four fingers while breathing at that four-four count. It gives me something steady and intentional to return to.
And the rest of the lesson went smoother than any I’ve done.
I said all that to say this:
What Kaila Allen from Creative Guidance LLC teaches goes with us into everything we do.
“But” you say.
To which I say, “You have to show up. You have to participate in the learning process. And when you’ve got it into your head and developed that mindfulness muscle memory, you can overcome challenges wherever they pop up.”
Even, dare I say it, when working with a Ninja O&M instructor.
Y’all get to that mindfulness homework now.
Then enjoy learning with Kaila at 2 PM today!
Below is all the information you’ll need to have a mindful glimmer filled day!
Mindfully Yours,
Patty L. Fletcher.
And now, here’s Kaila!
Dear Creative Journey Explorers,
This afternoon, we return to our circle for Week 3 of “Embodied Empowerment: Rewriting Your Story and Mastering Personal Growth.” Our focus turns directly to the body as our primary guide in “The Internal Compass: Mapping Your Biological Data and Signals.”
So often in our daily lives, we interpret physical surges like a racing heart, shallow breath, or sudden heaviness as emergencies or personal shortcomings. In this 90-minute live workshop, we will strip away the catastrophic narratives and learn to meet our biological sensations as neutral, informative data. Together, we will map your Window of Regulation, distinguish between hyper-arousal and hypo-arousal, and practice non-visual sensory orienting using sound and touch to prevent emotional hijacks before they take control.
Before we step into this new space tomorrow, take a moment to reflect on your practice from Week 2:
The Daily 3-Minute In-Between Belief Audit: Where did you notice an automatic interpretation sitting between an event and your emotional response?
The 60-Second Bilateral Butterfly T-A-P-S Reset: How did your nervous system respond to checking Temperature, Air, Posture, and your Safety Statement while utilizing bilateral collarbone tapping?
We gather tomorrow, Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 2:00 PM Eastern (11:00 AM Pacific) on the ACB Community Platform. Access live using your daily schedule or register directly by sending an email to community.
Set aside your distractions, bring a comfortable seat, and let us continue this journey inward together.
With gratitude and purpose,
