A New Old Seat
By Patty L. Fletcher
Moon Phase Waning Gibbous
in readiness for the operation
I planned then rearranged the furniture around
it totally changed the Atmosphere
The room appears more spacious than before
a loveseat once mostly ignored
an invitation covered with pretty patterned blankets
thanks for visiting please sit
sometimes the dog slept there snoring away
I’m enjoying it comfortably today
since deciding to place it this way
Backstory.
First, I have no idea if it’s okay to write something of this length or of this type in the pattern of a haiku but that’s what came out of my head.
Next, the reason for the poem is that the day after Blue left for foster care and I began preparing for surgery, I decided the house needed a good clearing out and the living-room a much-needed rearranging.
I knew how I wanted things to flow and the way it was wasn’t working for me.
Rather than employing the help of someone sighted, I decided to meet my need as a person who is blind living in this space. I went to work and trust me when I say it was work but the result was wonderful. Open, comfortable and a clearer perception of things from anywhere I sit.
The first big change was to totally remove my desk from the living-room. I put it into the bedroom, and immediately I began to feel more comfortable writing certain scenes in my book.
The next thing was to reset the space where the loveseat sits. I added a table and placed another chair just around in the corner of the room. My apartment is a corner unit which makes it just a bit different than some in its shape.
Today, I happened to have a backache and so decided on the loveseat with its thick cushions and lo and behold it’s the most comfortable arrangement ever. I believe the difference is the table I chose to sit between the loveseat and chair. It is the perfect height.
Blue may need to start sharing the loveseat when he returns.
He can have the other cushion. LOL.
We shall see. But for now, I’m sitting with my feet propped and ready to work on the manuscript a while as the geese continue calling to one another outside the window.
I wish I were outside observing them. Last year they were so fascinating this time of year.
I hope Blue gets back before mating season is over.
For today, I leave you with –
Keep your nose to the ground and your tail waving at the sky.
Enjoy your day.
