Today, has been one of those hit the ground running days.
When I woke at just after 4:30 AM I had a plan mapped out in my head as to what the day would look like.
I had an interview with a sponsoring member at 10, homework around 11:30 or so, lunch and manuscript in the afternoon after Creative Journey.
None of that went like I thought.
The first thing wrong, was the fact that I started working on the manuscript from bed after having my morning routine in the bathroom for the necessary and brushing teeth and hair.
Then, off to the kitchen for a cup of brew and back into the bed to snuggle with Blue and catch up the morning’s mail.
That did not happen because I just had to read one, little passage. Just wanted to check one, tiny, thing.
Two hours later I’d only worked on three paragraphs, I had a headache, Blue wanted out and my coffee was starting to form ice around the edges. Well, not really, but you get the idea.
I got up in complete disgust at myself, pulled on jeans, and a top, threw on my shoes and headed out with my dog.
After he did his thing in the yard, and we’d thrown it away, I headed us back outside for a morning walk. I’ve been working toward walking down to Southern Craft Barbeque without huffing and puffing so I can arrive at either it, or the Burger Bar just before it without sweating and feeling like my heart will blow up. Not a big, long, walk. I’m just out of shape and that along with allergies presents a challenge.
This morning, as we were passing the Blackbird Bakery, which is my favorite place in the world to go when Blue indicated the door.
“Nope. Not today dude. Mom’s more broke than a convict.”
A voice to my left laughed and a nice sounding man said, “Hi, Mam.” I stopped, turned, and expecting the normal, “Can I pet your dog?” Got ready to allow it and move on. That’s not what I got.
The man said, “I see you out here everyday. Sometimes you stop. Most times you just go on your way explaining to everyone that you’re just out getting your exercise and putting this big guy here through his paces. I admire your dedication to his needs and would like to buy you a doughnut and coffee.”
I was about to decline but something about his sincerity would not allow it. He introduced himself to me and I felt like I’d heard his voice before when passing by or going in. I was not sure if he was a frequent customer like me or a staff member but we went inside and I got in line explaining, “I’ll have to get it to go. Blue here has not been fed.” I had of course, by this time allowed this nice man named Scott to pet Blue and as I stood waiting on my order the lady behind the counter asked me something about what I was up to and I heard myself say, “Working on another stupid manuscript. I’m a writer and I’ve got five books out and am getting ready to publish a sixth.”
This led to a discussion about a recent artist who had done a class and put out some of her work and again I heard my voice speaking.
“You know, I saw that artist presenting up here and I wondered if you ever do author book signings.”
I left my contact information with the manager on duty and I’m hopeful.
