How I Love Ice Cream

By Marlene Mesot

How do I love ice cream?

Let me count the flavors.

No nuts, raisins or hard things,

Please do me these favors.

For me no Rocky Road

Or Chunky Monkey.

Neapolitan is fine,

Chocolate, vanilla, strawberry.

Coffee flavor is one of my favorites.

It’s cool, smooth, makes drinks too.

Peanut butter or butter scotch ripple,

Decorative and delicious will do.

I find vanilla versatile,

Because many toppings crown.

Chocolate blends with other things,

Like coffee to make mocha profound.

I love ice cream drinks,

Milk shake, frappe, soda and float.

Ice cream calms, soothes,

And refreshes the throat.

Fruit pieces can be added,

To enhance that certain flavor.

Apple, berry, cherry, peach,

Are tastes to savor.

I love to hold an ice cream bar,

Like orange and vanilla cream sickles.

Dash that old adage,

About eating ice cream and pickles.

Syrups like caramel, chocolate, strawberry,

Can serve as flavorful toppings.

Candy sprinkles and chips on top,

Can make ice cream look eye popping.

At many parties you will find

Together ice cream and cake.

But I always asked to have,

Mine to be served separate.

Mint chocolate chip and Reese’s peanut butter

Are two more delicious flavors.

Let’s not forget sherbert of the fruity kind,

Another facet to be savored.

I love ice cream pie or cake,

Another delicious treat.

But I have never had,

A custard or concrete.

Whether you enjoy it served

In a bowl, a tall glass or a cone,

The sweet pleasure of ice cream

Should never be far from home.

I am delighted to say I have coffee in my freezer.

I love ice cream. It is a real crowd pleaser.
