Good morning.
I hope all are well.
I am still extremely ill with what I have dubbed ‘The Sickness.’
I start feeling better. Then, because I’ve fallen so far behind with things both domestic and business, I don’t have time to fully recover before I need to be up doing things again.
I have 199 emails but as soon as I post this and look at the inbox again it will grow.
Getting and remaining caught up feels like a big overwhelming task, and I am falling further behind every day.
I’m doing as much as I am able and asking you all to be patient as I continue to battle this ‘sickness’ it is so far gaining the upper hand.
I have a doctor’s appointment on the 7th of Jan. I have a rule now, if I have a fever which fever reducer won’t take down within an hour I will go to the ER and if my breathing becomes compromised this too will send me. Otherwise, I am not going. My copay just to walk through the door is 295 dollars, until we get my insurance changed over. The ride in the Ambulance is three hundred dollars. So, just to get there and go through the door is expensive.
Going to the ER also presents problems for me and Blue. It should not, but what is and what should be in the medical profession does not always match.
No offense to any medical professionals out there but the medical profession is the least educated when it comes to blindness of any people I work with.
They ask some of the most inappropriate questions I have ever been asked and today, if someone asks me stupid inappropriate questions I’m going to remove their head. So, for now, I’m eating cough drops and drinking coffee. If I sit up and drink lots of warm liquid, I can manage a tiny bit of conversation but it’s not long before I’m coughing again and ready to lay down.
This is the worst respiratory junk I’ve dealt with in a while.
I’m supposed to do my Free to be Me call at 2 PM in the ACB Community. I’m going to try with all I have to do it. It happens at 2 PM eastern today and I’m going to need my attendees to bring entertainment topics and come ready to keep the conversation flowing.
If you are not getting that schedule, here’s a little more.

Happy New Year! 🍾
Thanks to an idea from a writing friend, I decided to include some highlights and milestones from 2025.
January 2025: I fell asleep before the ball dropped in Times Square. This time I was awake and tuned into the Nashville new year bash and the ball dropping in NYC.
In February 2025 we survived the two week long deep freeze and snow. This year, we are prepared for a deep freeze from the polar vortex. As I write this, there is five inches and it’s about ten degrees out.
On February 14 2025 I received the news about my new guide dog and the home training date. Iowa is enjoying the snow and loves to catch snowballs.
March and April 2025 kept us busy with gardening preparations. I visited my sister and her wife on the Cape the first week in May and then welcomed Iowa into our home and trained with Andrea Martine from Guiding Eyes for the Blind.
I started plans for my new mixed media art studio in June and spent July and August 2025 collecting supplies and setting up the physical space for it. September and October were dedicated to wrapping up projects and learning how to create the art I had been envisioning for months.
November2025 was my first attempt submitting a juried submission in an art exhibition and the time to launch my online gallery for selling my work.
What am I looking forward to in 2026? Doing a little more traveling, creating more art and letting my fingers fly on the keyboard. 😉
I hope love, kindness and wonderful things are part of 2026 for each and every one of you and I want to thank you for being my reading friends. 💖

Next, Abbie Johnson Taylor has some a bitter/sweet post with a book review to share.
Here is Abbie with more.
Reading with the Authors: A Sweet Romance with a Happy Ending 1-2-2025
Here’s a link to a review I first posted in 2023, now in loving memory of author Sherry Gomes. 💕 After learning of her passing, I wanted to honor her and the beautiful story she shared with readers. Haven is a sweet, hopeful romance with a happy ending—one that reminds us never to give up. Rest in peace, Sherry, and thank you for your words.

Sherry and I were starting to get to know one another. Her writings about her illness were bravely done. If I should ever fall ill in that way, I hope I’m able to carry it off like she did.
News Nuggets: Creative Journey Wednesdays 2 PM eastern.
Creative Journey for January 2026: The Art of Arrival: Rewiring Your Brain for Joy
When: Wednesdays in January 2026 Time: 2:00 PM Eastern Where: Zoom
We often start the New Year with a long list of resolutions, chasing new goals and striving for “more.” But what if the key to happiness isn’t getting what you want, but learning how to truly enjoy what you already have?
Join Coach Kaila for a special 4-part Creative Journey series, “The Art of Arrival.” Throughout January, we will move away from the exhausting cycle of “seeking” and step into the restorative practice of “savoring.” Using simple neuroscience, somatic tools, and community connection, we will rewire our brains to move from a state of constant chasing to a state of deep contentment.
Weekly Schedule
Week 1: The Science of Satisfaction (January 7) We kick off the year by debunking the myth that “more is better.” You will learn the fascinating neuroscience behind why we always want the next thing (the Dopamine loop) and how to switch on the brain chemicals that allow us to feel satisfied right now.
Week 2: The Capacity for Joy (January 14) Have you Ever felt like things are going too well? This week, we explore the “Upper Limit Problem.” We will practice somatic exercises to stretch our nervous system’s ability to hold onto joy and safety without self-sabotaging.
Week 3: Worthy Without Working (January 21) In a world that prizes productivity, it can feel dangerous to simply “be.” We will tackle the “Inner Taskmaster” and explore how to uncouple your self-worth from your To-Do list, finding peace in the moments between tasks.
Week 4: The Glimmer Hunter (January 28) We conclude the series by turning our contentment into an active practice. You will learn how to spot “Glimmers”—micro-moments of safety and awe—and how to program your brain to find magic in the mundane.

Thank you to Barbara Leonhard for sharing our Christmas story on MasticadoresUSA.
Enjoy this darling Christmas story. Merry Christmas!
It was two nights before Christmas, a cold and cloudy day
When the Roundy Twins thought of a new idea for play
Into Sir Chocolate’s Chocolatier, the naughty pair snuck
And found his sweet decorating tools; for them a bit of luck
Picture caption: The Roundy Twins
They spent the long winter’s evening having a lot of fun
And admired their handiwork when they were quite done
They had painted the town with Sir Chocolate’s edible-paint
The tubes were all empty, they had painted without restraint
Pictures and graffiti adorned every house in town’s walls
They had been to the local market and sprayed all the stalls
And the stage in the park, was full of paint and a mess
Shocked at their destruction, the twins were a bit stressed

January 3, 2026Hi Robbie. I slept a little easier last evening. I’ve discovered that if I hold a cough drop in my mouth, I can get a little relief.
Since I rested, I feel some better this morning, and I can taste my coffee. I’ve been sick since the Saturday before Christmas. Even so, it was a grand holiday this year.
I enjoyed Annie’s newsletter too. We run in different circles these days, but I am always on the lookout for her work.
You’re absolutely welcome for the inclusion I enjoy your work a lot.
Doing these little E-zines allows me to do round up posts of things when I fall behind.
I’ll do plenty of them when I go to Richmond because I’ll have four days of classes, a day for homework, one on one work with an instructor and then the weekend off. I figure I can do E-Zines on the weekends so I can practice what I learn and still advertise for people.
We’ll see how these plans shake out. I’m just very grateful for your support.
