From the Desk of Patty L. Fletcher – Tea, Rainy Weather, and What a Difference a Week Makes

Good morning, I hope all are well.
Here, the weather is rainy and cool. But that’s OK too because rain is better than snow.
I’m drinking hot tea and though it is not as good as coffee can be, that’s OK with me, because something is always better than nothing.
I ended up sleeping through the night last night, and oh how much better I feel today. I’ve not slept through the night in so many months I cannot even remember the last time.
I slept peacefully, and if I dreamed, I don’t remember it.
I’ve been working with someone who has really hit the nail on the head where mindfulness coaching is concerned, and the type of thing she does is so different than the old way of therapy, I cannot help thinking if this way of doing things had been around when I was first dealing with bipolar disorder I would have never struggled as hard.
The practices she teaches work if you follow through and do the things suggested and I feel I’ve dodged a huge bullet.
Last week at this time, I was deciding to have someone to care for Blue, so I could be hospitalized.
Yes, I know, I could argue that Blue is a guide dog and could go with me, but unless you’re on a specific type of unit being in a mental hospital with one’s dog can be dangerous for the dog and others. Equipment can be used as a weapon and leather leashes can be used to harm oneself. The emotional upheaval is something to consider as well, so rather than making a huge fuss I chose to put the wellbeing of my dog, myself, and others first, and think about what was most important. “My Treatment”
But, for now, at least, that’s not an issue. I feel better and have new tools in my toolbox to help combat this sickness.
Mental illness is a sickness, just as high blood pressure, heart disease and all other physical issues we face each day.
I’m proud to be working with Kaila and I seriously recommend her services to anyone who is feeling like they cannot move forward from the darkness or whatever rut has them marred down in life.
