Everything New a Poem

By Leonard Tuchyner

First time I beheld flowers,

Our world was lit with color,

with freshness of early morn,

and earth and I were born.

First time dark clouds cried,

ground and sky were purified,

Earth and I were softly bathed.

in solemn melancholy day.

First time I went sailing

the sky, wind and water played.

I was borne along laughing

on the rhythm of their dance.

First moment I held her near

my lonely heart found its love.

Every time I hold her close

it is always still the first.

I would that be my standard,

and the way of all the world,

that each day be a sunrise,

as seen through a child’s eyes.

That warms and prepares my nurturing ground and brings to me a springtime season, where my limbs and broken heart grow strong.

As young sap flows through arteries and veins, my branches and roots will bear fresh fruit.

So bring me your time and smiles.

I will help you grace them with laughter, while the cold north breeze takes its leave.
