As the sun went down and the night breeze began to blow Campbell and I made our way around the yard. Evening sniff fest are some of our happiest moments. This night was no exception. We had not been home very long, and were just learning our way around. I was just beginning to feel comfortable enough to let him be out of his harness during these walks. I could more then tell Campbell was very happy to have this privilege, and my trust. He was quite literally prancing around the yard as we went. One of my neighbors commented, “so he is not working when he is not in his harness, right?” I stopped, caught my breath, and said, “no, he is not working when he is not in his harness. Someday, when he and I have been together a while, I will help him learn to leash guide. This means, that too and extent he will guide me around things and help me keep my place while we are walking together. I would never trusted in traffic unless it was an emergency. Here on the property, and in front of the house on the walk, One day, I will be comfortable with.”
This is a memory I had this evening, while walking Campbell just before coming in side after having enjoyed some time on the front porch.
Campbell surprised me while we were sitting outside. A dog and its people walked by, and Campbell stood up and tgot some labatude with the dog. I settled him down quickly enough, and the people walking passed commented on how beautiful candle was. I sure am proud of my Bubba. Sure am kind of proud of me too. Campbell and I are learning to do lots of neat things together. I am overcoming my feeling like I am starting over, and realizing I am only beginning a new chapter. So as we say in the Campbell Kingdom, “come along and go with me, and let us see what we can see. Yay! Campbell Lee!”
