Educating the uneducated: Friends, Neighbors and Housing Oh My

MOON PHASE WANING CRESCENT
*Note*
I began this entry at 7:00 AM this morning. Before I knew it an hour or so had flashed by and it was time for my day to begin and begin it did…
I’ve not written all I wanted to here but here’s what I managed before the day truly roared to life.
I cannot believe it’s been so long since I wrote in my journal. I really must return to a more disciplined writing routine. I mean, I write blog posts and stuff and some of them go into my journal, but I need to write about the personal goings on in my life as well. I need to do this for several reasons. First, I need to be able to purge frustrations, worries and other negative things that get in my way each day. I know if I do this, I’ll be the better for it in all aspects of my life. I also need to write personal things because if I keep track, it’ll make it easier to write my memoirs. So, today, I’m going to attempt to reset my routine and write a bit.
Honestly, even with the continuing self-isolating and extra care when going out for essential needs, I’ve had a few things going on. First, to Prince Edward, A.K.A. Sweet Eddy. His allergies and asthmatic symptoms continue. So, after some email and text exchanges with my vet, we decided a daily medication was in order. It was also decided that he should have another antibiotic shot. At first, I thought I’d need to find transport to bring him in. This has so far been the most challenging part of having a cat for a pet. Contrary to popular uneducated belief, Sweet Eddy is not allowed on public transport such as the Door-to-Door service provided by KATS (Kingsport Area Transit Services). The only animals which are allowed on any such transport are service animals which can perform an actual task which assists the owner/handler. While Sweet Eddy does provide much support to me, he is not task trained and there-for does not have riding privilege. We do have uber and they do offer a pet ride service but who the heck has money for uber when an emergency arises? Anyhow, in the end my friend Melanie who is one of the lead receptionists at Colonial Heights Animal Hospital, where I take my animals decided she would just bring the meds and shot and not upset him by taking him out of the house. I must say, I was much relieved. Honestly, it is better for the cat if he doesn’t have to be taken out of the house unless it is an extreme situation.
That having been said, when he had an asthma attack a month ago, my friend and life-coach Christy McMakin who works for Life Bridge here in town took us to the vet so I could have him examined by a vet and be there with him to talk to them afterward. It was pouring rain that day and I have stated multiple times since, “It’s a true friend who will come out in the pouring rain to take someone and their cat to the vet.” Christy and Melanie are two of my best friends and supporters.
They’re not the only ones though. I’ve some great neighbors too. The people across the street are pretty special. I’ve known Adele, her sister Mary, Ronny and the caregivers who help in the home caring for Adele’s brother Ronny and her elderly mother for years. In fact, I knew them before I moved here, and you can’t imagine my delight when I moved in and realized they were living across the street. I’d been here for about a week before I learned they were here and when I did that feeling of being in another world one gets when moving to a new place started evaporating.
That feeling was completely blown away a month or so later, when one day while walking Campbell I stopped to talk to some cute little dogs who were barking and bouncing with excited glee at the prospect of meeting the King and the owners came out to talk to me. Meeting Janel was another delight and soon, I was feeling quite at home in the neighborhood.
That leads me to the present day. My house has been sold and the new owner is genuinely nice. He is in fact; the father of my old property manager and he’s got some great plans for the house. He wants to rip out all this old flooring and put in new, put in screens for all the windows and redo the electrical wiring too. This would make the house so much more hospitable, and these are all things I would’ve done had I been fortunate enough to be financially secure to buy the place on my own.
The crux of the matter is that right now, I’m on month-to-month status here for three-months and during these three-months, my rent stays the same. But in three-months, which is now, really only two-and-a-half I must make the decision to either stay or go. If I stay, he will be raising the rent one-hundred dollars and whilst this is not unreasonable what with all he will do to the place, it is borrowing some miracle out of my comfort zone financially. I would not only have to pay rent of eight-hundred dollars, but I would continue to pay utilities, a lawn care bill plus phone and internet and my personal living expenses and that’s just more than I can handle, my monthly income is only twelve-hundred-nineteen dollars and that’s just barely enough to support me now, and absolutely not enough to support me should that rent go up.
People have this misguided belief that disabled persons are entitled to a bunch of assistance and it’s just not so. Like, last weekend, I posted on the Next-Door app asking for recommendations for a local liquor store which would deliver, and someone actually wrote that my Medicare insurance should pay for private trips to go to such places. Seriously? Even I know I do not deserve such a perk just because I’m disabled. Good Goddess, Medicare is not designed for such stupidity and neither is Ten Care. That insurance does pay for medical related trips but it’s on me to get other places I need to go. Besides, the fool woman didn’t take into account it was Sunday afternoon and the KATS service was not running. I tell you; some people are just eaten up with…
Ah, well, in the end, it turned out my friend Janel was out and about running errands and was going by Food City and was happy to pick up some beer and cleaning supplies for me. She also threw in a few extras which were buy one get one free and she wanted the sale price but not double items. When she came by to drop the things off, she took time to visit with me and that was to my mind the best part.
My point to all this is that I live in a great place, and I don’t want to move. So, I’m praying for an intervention or another place which will improve my living situation that’s near where I’m currently living so I can remain close to those I love. I only need to figure out a way to add another one-hundred dollars to my income so I feel it may be possible.
In my faith, today, just happens to be my favorite day of the week, for it’s focus is on attracting more of what you have. So, I’m attracting more of the great living situation I have.
I know…
There is no part of my life which does not belong to the Goddess.
There is no part of my body which does not belong to the Goddess.
I am she, and she is me.
We are one, yet we are we.
So mote it be and blessid be.
Amen.
Prayer…
Thank you for the sun.
Thank you now day’s begun, all my needs, wants and desires, they’re met.
Thank you for what I have and have not yet.
Thank you when the day is through, I will still be me and you will still be you.
Light my path. Guide my way.
Give me that which to do and say.
So mote it be, blessid be, amen.

PS. A lot of zany and incredible stuff has happened today but since I’m rather whipped at the moment and am craving some recliner and snuggle time with Sweet Eddy, it’ll have to wait, but watch for more entries coming soon.
