While working at Industries of the Blind warehouse in Greensboro NC I was able to listen to audiobooks with earphones on the job. Although packing was my primary job, I had also been a picker and shipper at times. In a large backroom where we picked up products to take to packers for shipping there was an area where you could hear sort of hollow footsteps and echoing sounds in the cement room.

I was listening to The Wishing Well, book 8 in the penny Parker young adult mystery series by Mildred Wirt Benson, a.k.a. Carolyn Keene.

The echo from the well in the book was enhanced by the acoustics of the room making the rapid repeating sounds more real. What a memorable experience.
