Introduction

Hello, everyone and thanks for joining us in Patty’s Worlds today, for Day 3 of the WordCrafter Poetry Treasures 5: Small Pleasures Book Blog Tour

Guest Post

When Robbie invited me to become her guest poet for June 2024’s “Treasuring Poetry”, I was delighted and at the same time honored to be alongside other brilliant and successful poets worldwide. It was a fun interview feature and something that I won’t forget for many years to come. I’ve always admired Robbie’s talents as an artist considering that she not only writes, she also bakes and paints and has a very skillful eye for photography. So I told myself, is there anything else that Robbie can’t do?

Weeks after my feature interview came out, I realized that the series has actually been going on for a while now. Annually, Robbie, along with Kaye, releases an anthology book featuring all the poets of the current year featured on Poetry Treasures. I was even more thrilled and waited for further instructions or emails from Robbie. Until (drum roll, please) the email came, announcing the theme of this year’s anthology; Poetry Treasures, Small Pleasure. How exciting. Contributors were asked to submit poems depicting their small pleasures in life. It wasn’t so hard, after all, we have simple joys and pleasures that we live by daily. Mine was my children and family, my prose and poetry, and witnessing people around me feeling the love and joy of being in love and being loved. So in a matter of days, I came up with four pieces each representing my simple joys; “Bundle of Joy”, “Unstoppable”, “Crushing on You”, and “Familiar Place”.

“Bundle of Joy” is about the joys of motherhood and having children around the house running joyfully and playing around. And this joy does not end when the kids have grown up to be adults, because as a mother of four adult daughters, I say it’s always fun to have them around and watch them argue, discuss, and laugh about just anything. It also warms my heart the hear them share each other’s dreams and visions in life and in the future.

“A joyful little one,

Running free with glee,

Brings life and laughter

To a house, setting it free”

“Unstoppable”, is about my joys of writing every day. Yes, I mean it every day. Whether it is prose a poem or a reflection, I make sure I have something new every day. I’d write anywhere and everywhere. Even in the grocery stores when people wait in long lines to pay. I have a handy paper and pen with me or simply my smartphone is ready whenever inspiration hits me.

“No need to forgive my rhyming,

Or the playful words I’m timing,

It’s just that spark, that sudden feeling,

When my thoughts start swiftly healing.”

“Crushing on You”, and “Familiar Place” are poems based on how I perceive observing people having the best time of their lives around with their loved ones, either a romantic couple, a friend, a relative, or simply a co-worker. There is an extra amount of joy in seeing a smile and hearing a burst of laughter from someone next to me in a cafe, restaurant, or maybe in a department store.

“I wish I weren’t where I am,

caught in thoughts about the distance

between you and me.

Should I measure it in meters,

or perhaps by time?”

“Have I told you that

in every silent whisper

of the wind’s gentle caress,

I hear the soft echo of your voice,

calling my name?”

It is with great pride and honor that I present to all my readers and followers worldwide this poetry anthology that is a manifestation of seeing and appreciating joy in its simplest forms daily.

I am also thrilled to be alongside brilliant poets whose works I love and adore. I thank Robbie and Kaye for curating this incredible anthology.

Join me and my fellow poets, DL Mullan, Barbara Harris Leonhard, Jude Itakali, Ivor Steven, Robbie Cheadle, Gwen M. Plano, Elizabeth Gauffreau, David Bogomolny, Dawn Pasturino, Maggie Watson, and Colleen Chesebro in celebrating our simple pleasures in poems.
