Awakening

awake just after 2 AM
restless
unable to find comfort
finally
up and about the business of the morning
my body refused to wait until a reasonable hour
washed face
fingers through hair
straighten wayward curls
put them in place
brings a smile to my face
remember his soft laugh
gentle touch
teach me correct pronunciation
direction
firm
gentle
correction
appreciated him so much
gone away
no come back
keep working
head down
say little
hear much
gain wisdom
working so hard
want to please so much
in the end it does no good
I knew it would
not
