I am so pleased you are reading this newsletter. This is the busiest quarter of the year for many reasons – the call of creativity and the outdoors — two of the most satisfying activities of the of the upcoming summer season.
First, let me catch you all up: I participated in the PGH book fest which took place on May 30 at the Carnegie main library in Oakland PA, just inside Pittsburgh proper. I read for fifteen minutes and was the first poet to read, nervous? Not me! A short stack of my two poetry collections, Upwelling and Words of Life were featured and sold. The best part? Listening to the other poets and making much needed connections. It is all about making meaningful touch points and this event provided more than a few to assist me.
🖋️In other news: still writing, still submitting and working on final edits to various poems and short stories. I am learning to be more practical regarding rejections, collecting them like badges of honor. It’s better than not trying at all. 😊
🏡Did I tell you about our continuing progress on our garden? Well, my wonderful spouse, Jerry, with the assistance of a good all-around handy guy by the name of John, have slowly transformed our long-neglected property into a nice , natural landscape. It took three years after purchasing it to get it mostly the way we want and more needs to happen, but all in good time. We try to minimize weed killers and chemical pesticides, only resorting to them when we are battling serious issues.
Why work so hard and spend money on this? When I sit here typing out whatever comes to mind, the bright call of a Tanager or cardinal or my spouse announcing a young buck deer strolling down our street is the reason. We are cohabitating and our little quarter acre invites peace, sustenance and acceptance to all the denizens.
