Being visually impaired and using screen reading technology, I found setting up online banking impossible because my bank’s website and mobile phone app are designed in such a way that screen readers can’t interact with certain form controls. On my iPhone, I had no trouble entering my account information but couldn’t check the box to agree to the terms and conditions. On my PC, I couldn’t even check the radio button to indicate I had a personal account, which is the first step.

  1. To continue the story, I received a phone call from someone in the bank’s main branch, inquiring about my difficulty enrolling in online banking. I explained the situation, and she said she would look into making improvements to the site and app. So, all’s well that ends well. Thank you for reading.
