A Poem for the Bruised, Abused and Downtrodden

A Poem for the Bruised, Abused and Downtrodden

I had a dream
in the middle of the night
I heard your laughter
then
I heard your tears
heard your disappointment
heard your fears
things always look better in the light of day
that’s also what I hear you say
but darlin’
that’s just not right
those nasties are still there
waiting to scratch
waiting to bite
not right I say again
say again my friend
there’s no reason to let that be
go ahead and set yourself free
you need not be
unhappy
your life is yours to do with as you wish
of course,
but you are
better than that
think about it
remember
in the end
you’ll live longer with you
than anyone else
so be good to yourself
and remember
you can start again
those who truly love you will be there when whatever you’re going through is over with
that’s what true friendship is
and of course, then there’s me
who
will always love you
just because she wants to

A poem to the bruised, abused, and downtrodden

*May this poem reach those who need to hear it.

There’s never, ever, no matter how embarrassing, how frightened, no matter what your afraid others will think to stay in a situation which is not good or safe for you to be in.

Abuse comes in all shapes, sizes, and is done by both sexes to both sexes.

There, is, no, shame.

Been there done that got the scars.

I stayed far longer than I should’ve and lost a lot of my life.

People respect you more for leaving than for staying.

That’s, what I learned.

What I also learned, is that those who do not understand and who don’t support you, well, babe, they’re just not worth a damn.

As we say in the land of guide dogs, “Leave it”

If you have made mistakes, even serious mistakes, you may have a fresh start from any moment you choose, for this thing we call ‘failure’ is not the falling down, but the staying down.
