A Double Dose of Perfect Recognition Poems by Patty L. Fletcher

I woke up this morning,

got up and took my meds,

washed my face,

brushed my teeth,

then

got back into bed.

I lay there for thirty minutes,

letting my mind run

this way and that.

Finally,

I’d had enough.

I got up

to see what might be next.

I felt relaxed.

I’d done my breathwork too,

and now

I’m sitting propped up on my pillows,

snuggled close

to Chief Seeing Eye Dog Blue.

I’m happy this morning,

although not all the news

yesterday was great.

I know I must now live up

to all the promises—

the promises I made.

It took me nearly fifty-nine years

to get some things figured out,

and even now

I don’t always know

what my life is really about.

But now I’m sipping coffee,

my morning’s favorite brew,

and with a little luck

and a little work,

I’m able to share

this here with you.

Life is but a journey,

a journey we all must take.

So why not make it a good one?

Heck,

you could even

make it great.

I don’t have all the answers.

Maybe I never will.

But this morning,

with coffee in my hand,

Blue snuggled close,

and another day before me,

I know this much—

I’m still here.

I’m still learning.

I’m still loving.

And I’m still

on my way.

The Journey I Woke Up To a Poem of Recognition by Patty L. Fletcher Bristol VA https://pattysworlds.com/

Let’s talk a moment

about greatness.

It’s not how much you have

or the power you can wield.

It’s thinking of others

rather than only yourself,

living the best life you can live.

It’s not about

all you can take or grab,

but how much

you’re willing to give.

You see,

this love we speak of

is a circle.

It really does

come round.

And what I’ve only now realized

is love comes

in many shapes,

many sizes,

many forms.

Be careful

you don’t make

the mistake I almost made.

Don’t shove it away.

Don’t overlook

the little things.

A text.

A question answered.

Someone there

when there’s a problem

I cannot solve alone.

I almost didn’t recognize

all the love

coming right to my door.

A friend or two who checked on me

throughout that first day—

the first day of my soldiering into the “Big C”

when other help

seemed to drift away from me.

A friend or two, who makes sure

Team Blue

has what they need.

What in hell

could have been the matter with me?

Why on earth

did I take so long to see?

Even when I got pissy,

even when I became for some

a little difficult

to be around,

their love,

guidance,

and understanding

could still be found.

Yes,

love unbidden

is a circle.

Handled with care,

it comes back around.

Thanks be to the Goddess,

their caring,

kind consideration

is still here,

still able to be found.

Now I’m more careful.

I take time

to recognize

just what I’ve got.

Because there was

a fearful moment

when I thought

it had been lost.

So be careful,

all you who have

Blessid friends

and loved ones

such as these.

Hold them close each day

beneath your prayers

of protection.

And at night,

though they may not be near,

draw them gently

into your heart.

Let them go in safety.

Let them go in love.

They need not even know

how perfectly

they fit your heart

like a glove.

Because when you need it,

love may come

without so much

as a nudge.

And suddenly

you’ll feel it—

that gentle,

loving touch.

Your heart will swell

with realization,

with recognition

of what was there

all along.

Love,

when handled with care,

doesn’t have to shout

to prove itself strong.

Give it freely.

Recognize it

when it comes.

And one day

the love you send outward

will circle back around—

fitting their heart,

as surely as they,

fit yours,

like a great glove of love.
