How to Keep Focus During Long Writing Sessions#OpenBookBlogHop #WordPressWednesday

Good morning.

Today, in response to Stevie Turner’s Open Book Blog Hop 4th January 2021 I want to write about how I keep my focus on writing while dealing with Social Media.

When I began dealing with Social Media platforms after I wrote my first book, ‘Campbell’s Rambles: How a Seeing Eye Dog Retrieved My Life (2014) I realized that there was no way on earth to write large chunks of my next book project or a decent blog post with all the notifications chittering in my ear. Between the screen reader voice and the dinging and pinging from my phone or computer, I knew if I didn’t get a handle on it straight away, not one word would ever be written again.

At first, I tried to block out a specific time during the day to answer everyone. But that turned into a longer and longer session of Social Media time that I didn’t want.

When I begin my new Social Media Marketing Assistance business, it got worse.

Then, suddenly! Inspiration struck! Though I would take time in between writing jags or promotion work to deal with notifications, I also decided I needed one day to seriously focus on not only my own Social Media needs but those of my clients’ as well.

So, just like that, #SocialMediaMonday was born.

I’ve since learned others use this Hashtag too, just as #WordPressWednesday is already in use everywhere in the WP blogosphere. But it works for me and so when I’ve a writing project going, I know I can turn my notifications to do not disturb and get on with the business of writing.

Having thousands of friends and followers round the globe is great but don’t let anyone fool you into believing it’s easy to keep balanced.

So, passing the torch so to speak, how do you keep your focus?

Thanks to Stevie Turner for her prompt today on her Open Book Blog Hop 4th January 2021

Thanks everyone for reading.

May harmony find you, and blessid be.
